My first impression of Dark Hole through the trailer and the teaser are the aspects of similarities to the shows Dark and The Mist, as well, as The Walking Dead on Netflix. The dark smoke seems to be able to ‘chase’ or ‘move on its own’ like The Mist. The atmosphere of the setting is dark and serious, striking some resemblance to Dark.

In addition, I thought it was going to be another zombie movie. However, it was said that the monsters were different from zombies since the ‘monsterification’ isn’t spread through bites or bodily fluids. Instead, it’s through the inhalation of the dark smoke inside ‘crystals’ that are broken.

In the trailer, teasers and episode 0, it shows that once the dark smoke enters the human body, their fearful eyes will shift black from the smoke. They lose their humanity, turning in to human mutants that hunt humans that aren’t exposed to the dark smoke yet. The dark smoke apparently causes traumatic fear to resurface in their mind.

It looks like there are three stages after being exposed to the dark smoke;

  1. The dark smoke takes over the eyes causing great fear, and turning them black.
  2. Hallucinations; dark smoke visible in the veins and displaying on the exterior as black lines, Highly irritable; will either kill others or kill themselves.
  3. Finally, the black smoke in the form of a tentacle will extend from one ear as they’re being controlled by something/someone. They’ll seep into the survivors to create and spread more fear and confusion among the surviving.
